We here at the UK Beach Tour family are beyond excited to have had our FIRST EVER UKBT event up in the sunny west coast of Scotland hosted by West Coast Beach Volleyball Club! This past weekend saw events happening in England, Scotland and Wales with high level play across all nations!
We caught up with the West Coast Beach Volleyball crew to get a round up of the event itself as well as the mood and feeling in Scotland as they hosted the first UKBT event with the Edinburgh Grand Slam event not too far away!
“It was amazing to have the UK Beach Tour hit Troon Beach and we were absolutely buzzing to see a lot of new members join the UKBT family from our event. We hope the first of many! With wildcard spots to play for into the Edinburgh Grand Slam on July 24-25 it meant the level of competition was up there with some of the best seen on these sands! Everyone was raring and ready to go which made for some really exciting battles!”
Day 1 of the Troon 3 Star event was as the organisers put “A Spicy One”, with the top Scottish mens teams sparring hard all day! It was a spicy final indeed with the mens pairing of Connor Boyle & Stewart Coldwell edging out the brother pairing of James & Ben McHardy in a 3 set thriller!
Day 2 saw the women’s event take to the sand and in the women’s event it was a real battle throughout! The final provided some spectacular play between the top 2 Scotland international pairs. The pairing of Lynee Beattie & Mel Coutts were victorious taking home the gold medal, leaving Katie Barbour & Rachel Morrison having to settle for a silver medal this time. No doubt there will be plenty more amazing battles between these two teams and hopefully at the Grand Slam next month!
The West Coach Beach Volleyball team also wanted to give a massive shoutout to the local authority for helping host the event and the local community and businesses, The Buf and Caprice in Prestwick who provided the event prizes. We can’t wait for more events to come!
