The Grand Slam Series is BACK! What more could you ask for than to start off our series in the ‘Wimbeldon’ of the British beach volleyball world that is, Weymouth, Dorset. There is only being 1 sleep left until Weymouth will be hosting the first UKBT Grand Slam event of the year and the first one since 2019! The 37th Weymouth Classic event to run! Looking at the weather and the teams scheduled to compete in this event we are definitely in for an amazing weekend of beach volleyball!
For those of you who are unaware of how the Grand Slam series works, the format of the event is the top 16 teams in the country split into 4 groups on day 1 where they battle it out for a place into the finals day on day 2! Day 2 is then filled with jam packed action of the quarter finals, semi finals and then the grand final where only 1 team per gender can be crowned winners of the 37th Weymouth Classic! What more could your weekend ask for.
We caught up with England defender Anaya Evans who currently studies in America, about her thoughts on Weymouth and the first grand slam of the year! She shared that, “Playing on uk sand in front of a uk crowd is always special, but the history and stature of the Weymouth event will make this weekend even more exciting.” Anaya who makes up one of the young and exciting England pairings for this upcoming event shared some insight on her new partner for the event, Isabelle Tucker. She shared that, “playing with Izzy Tucker will be an amazing experience as she is one of the next up and coming England representatives for beach volleyball. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have my family and friends share the experience with me, whilst playing alongside a dedicated, powerful and smart young woman. Izzy are I are a new duo for this weekend but we’re all in, so watch this space!”
No doubt it will be a great event to watch with real fire power on both the men and women’s side of the event, so if you manage to get down to Weymouth this weekend be sure to check it out, and as always thank you to our sponsors of the tour and the local event sponsors for helping make all of this happen.
