UKBT Grand Slam Finals
- Location: Bournemouth Pier, outside Oceanarium
- Date: 11th – 12th September 2021
The UK Beach Tour alongside hosts Deep Dish Beach Volleyball are delighted to present the 2021 UKBT Grand Slam Finals. The season has been leading up to this weekend where the top 8 men’s and women’s teams will go head to head in order to be crowned UK Champions. The event will be held next to the iconic Bournemouth Pier where the fans will be treated to some of the highest level beach volleyball the UK has seen.
Qualification to the finals was not easy, with each of the previous four Grand Slam winners earning an automatic ticket to the finals. With the remaining spots taken by the next highest ranked teams in the UK rankings.
On the women’s side, all four previous Grand Slams were shared by the two pairings of England national team Jess Grimson & Daisy Mumby and Russian natives Julia Tokarenko & Maria Sviridova. They will be coming into the event as hot favourites but will be up against some tough opposition including Scotland’s top two pairings and the feisty Polish/Italian pairing of Aga Adamek & Giulia Rastelli to name a few.
The men’s side is equally as exciting with the recently crowned World Tour gold medallists, and England national team, Javier and Joaquin Bello who will be looking to retain their title of UK Champions. They will be up against some fierce competition from the likes of fellow England national teams Harry Jones & Niko Gleed and Sam Dunbavin & Haydn Lawson.
The UK Beach Tour continues to be one of the most multi-cultural sporting tours in the world and the Finals will see a total of 9 nationalities competing. With players from England, Scotland, Russia, Poland, Italy, Holland, Japan, Spain and New Zealand.
This will be the first time the Grand Slam Series has come to the Bournemouth Pier site, and we are very excited to host what will be a truly spectacular show. UKBT Director Jake Sheaf had to say, “Bournemouth is a hub of beach volleyball in the UK, and we couldn’t be more delighted to bring what will be the highest level beach volleyball event held in the UK since the London 2012 Olympics. Lots of the teams competing are fighting for positions in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and we are delighted to provide them with top level competition as preparation.”
Entry to the event is free all weekend, so if you’re in the area come along and enjoy the amazing atmosphere and admire the exhilarating sport of beach volleyball and the UK’s top athletes.
