To kick off our Organiser Spotlight series, we’re heading all the way to the most northern club in the UKBT, Aurora Beach Volleyball Club, based on the beautiful Donmouth Sands in Aberdeen.
Aurora began during COVID with just six juniors, three balls and a borrowed net, training on Saturday mornings. By week two they’d bought their own net, and within a year they had grown into a bustling community of juniors and adults. As restrictions lifted, the club kept expanding, eventually needing more nets, more space, and more sessions to meet demand.
Fast forward to today and Aurora now runs from May to September, offering junior training, adult competitive sessions, “rock up and play” evenings, and their popular Aurora League, where athletes earn ranking points that all lead into the annual Club Finals. Competition nights regularly see 50+ athletes on the sand, and last season the club welcomed nearly 150 participants.
Aurora is led by the fantastic team of Ken, Diana and Emma, who work hard to create a safe, friendly and competitive environment for athletes of all levels and backgrounds. They’re especially proud of their diverse, international community of players who come together to enjoy the sport and Aberdeen’s fresh North-Easterly breezes… with the occasional seal or porpoise joining as a spectator!
Want to get involved? It couldn’t be easier, just rock up!
