For our January Organiser Spotlight, we’re heading to the south coast to Yellowave Beach Sports, based on the seafront in Brighton & Hove.

Yellowave first opened its doors in 2007 as the UK’s first permanent beach sports venue. The idea was brought to life by beach volleyball player Katie Mintram, her husband and former semi-pro footballer Spencer Mintram, and Katie’s dad Alan Randall. Since then, Yellowave has become a cornerstone of beach sports in the UK and has recently expanded even further with the opening of a second site in Hove, featuring three beach volleyball and beach tennis courts alongside a beach soccer pitch.

Today, Yellowave runs something for everyone, from leagues and tournaments to tasters, kids’ parties and a dedicated youth pathway. The venue is powered by a passionate team of 10 managers and over 40 staff, with Damo Sulc and Eric Munday leading the events programme.

At the heart of Yellowave is a simple but powerful mission: remove the barriers to playing beach sports. The focus is on getting people on the sand, having fun and feeling welcome, while also providing clear pathways for players to develop further, whether at Yellowave or on beaches across the UK. The aim is that everyone leaves feeling better than when they arrived.

Yellowave is especially proud of the thousands of players they have introduced to beach volleyball over the years, as well as seeing young athletes such as Lewis Bunton, Maia Darling and Billy Henning progress to national level. Through schools outreach and community programmes, Yellowave continues to inspire the next generation, creating what they proudly call the “Yellowave trickle effect.”

Want to get involved? There are plenty of ways to join in, from hiring a court with friends to pay and play sessions, classes and events, all bookable online or in person.
